Callers and email Maine real estate customers ask often..."What is a T2 R3 ?" or "What is Unorganized Maine all about?" Think of Maine being low population..in fact Northern Maine's Aroostook County has 11 people per square mile and an area the size of Connecticut and Rhode Island. The towns in 99% of the time are six miles by six mile square...logical, systematic, cut and dry. Not weird shaped townships of areas that look like difficult puzzle pieces...think square new brownies cut out of a square pan...that's Northern Maine. As you get west of US Rt 1 Or RT 11, you will see like grid work T 1 R 1 next to T1 R 2 and above T2 R 1. Some of the unorganized townships where you pay your property taxes directly to the State Of Maine in Augusta have other designations like TA R 2, or TC R2 which is south of TD R2 and south of TE R2. And some may have actual names like Letter A or Glenwood even though officially they have the same grid work "tatoo" that is logical and a way to keep track of the thousands and thousands of acres of unsettled Aroostook County! Hope this explains what a T2 R2 unorganized township is that Maine real estate land buyers ask over and over as it catches their attention when they are used to simple town names. These unorganized townships is where we play, snowsled, hunt, fish, cross country ski. No people, lots of wildlife and scenery and peace and quiet right in our backyard..the backyard called "Vacationland".
