Wite Out The Year, Same New Year's REALTOR Resolution's List Happens.

Hold it, before you change the 2013, over the 2012 with the magic of wite out to 2014 preparing for the new year, think about your resolutions list.

Why the problem, struggle, such an ordeal to get items off that wish list for good? To shorten you tube video logothe collection, everything under control to come out on top?

Let's talk about habits in real estate, in life.

Had a psychiatrist from Argentina who was from Atlanta Georgia in the office a couple months back. He had married a native of that South American country, a doctor too. A near, dear friend of mine has struggled with tossing the grade A package of tobacco that comes in packs of twenty for years. Not a big smoker, no chimney. But still persistent. Had the habit.

I told him she has tried Chantix, the nicotine gum, hypnosis, acupuncture, everything under the Maine Lake Kayak Photosun along with quit smoking support classes. Those education of the addiction group sessions sat through but still carried the sticks despite it all.

He bluntly, matter of factly said "she does not want to quit".

At first I thought, hey, not very supportive and a positive approach could do wonders with your couch side manner Doc.

But he went on to say if you really want to do something, you do it.

Nothing can stop you or get in the way. If you don't have that fire in your belly determination, then forget it. Talk all you want. But you won't want to bad enough if you continue to do what you say you desperately want to stop. It has not gotten to the level or do or die, sink or swim.

In real estate it is like saying I really want to sell my grossly overpriced house and wondering what the heck is taking so long getting a sold sign rider screwed on top of what's speared, planted in the lawn out front.

And telling everyone that you would negotiate, are highly motivated. But you keep that nose bleed price stuck on the place so shelf rot happens. Revolving door of agents, brokers. That one by one should have walked away from that parked up in the top bleachers too high price section. Of the MLS merry go, high speed wrong information highway. Rise above what is keeping you down. Just say no.

The doctor told my secretary to think about what is happening in your head just before you light up.

And after you are done the exercise to smoke 'em if you got 'em, what are you thinking, feeling?

There the problem, answer, solution all rolled up in one.

Ask yourself going in and coming out why do I smoke? I am a big girl, or boy and yes I can, but why do I? 

I know all the surgeon general's side panel warnings. Seen, heard the buzzing device where the larynx used to be to talk PSA's.

Have seen the effects of prolonged smoking in every family, among our friends. But how come it is still sign me up for more for so so many people?

What is the kick that makes it worth it despite the down side, playing the odds?

Cool looking Marlboro man riding off into the sunset carring a holster of two guns, a rifle, can of beans, some coffee, bed roll blanket and riding with only one lung mystic? No, that can't be it. You want to stick around to see all the scenes, the entire life movie?

So real estate new year's resolutions.

The biggest one that you see added right up there with sign up for the gym, stay in touch with family to a tighter degree in your relationship maintenance, cut back on spending, beef up the savings is video. It makes the list, but the equipment, software bought gets more layers of dust piled on top year after year. Over in the far end of the real estate office office supply store room. See that corner sticking out of the video camera box on top of the Commodore 64, under the 128? That's the video gear. Impressive huh?

Everyone agrees video for real estate is the cat's meow in show and tell memorable, easy, powerful. But why the fear of real estate video? Why the agent fear of the lens when the non verbal, the facial expressions all add to the video sight and sound experience for the connection, engagement and trust?

Shocking. In the most important, highest priced decision most of us ever make shock paddles photowhen spending money. Face, examine, detox, find the antidote the fear of real estate video marketing

Real estate is emotional, effects our lives in so many ways and deserves video not a slide show with filler sound track.

So it's on your list for New Year's resolutions, again. Try using gasoline this year to put out that all important marketing fire.

Kick yourself in the pants before you again shoot yourself in both feet. Real estate video for marketing your local area community events, the property listings you list, need to sell in those zip codes.

Make this the year, to kick the habit of nominating video for a spot. But not handed the rich reward you reap from local area, property listing, easy does it on the personal agency branding during the red light blink blink blink.

Good morning Andy.  Debbie and I are keeping our list short and to the point in 2014.  As you said it takes determination to pull off a New Year resolution.  Health and new website are our goals.

Websites, like cars you drive off the lot with the XM cranked and the formaldehyde new ride smell never stay current. Are outdated trying to keep up with what it is style, works best. Good simple Texas two step approach. Like it.

I am not afraid of video just don't know how to use it. I only have my lap top cam and some gumption.... Maybe this year will be a video year. Thinking about what I would say. I have already listened to to some AR on the subject. I am in thinking mode now.

One west coast real estate broker when asked why the delay, why something comes ahead of kick starting the video channel is I just want to throw money it and be done. There. The results without the work, mastering the learning curve. If it was that easy more than 15% of all real estate agents, brokers would be using video. Like dropping coins in a vending machine. Easy peasy.

Pull back on old ways that are not as effective marketing to make room on the bench for the all star game changer, winner. The video can do the whole show when up, out in the field. Without all the other players. But they all support and give your buyer more options to get the information delivered to them on demand right now. They won't wait, should not have to so no more teasing and more pleasing.

Video. Slow but sure but get it started. Don't think you are the star Sussie...turn the blinking red light around and make the local events in your community, the property listings do the heavy lifting. There are too many of the talking head 30 second wonders that translate into a video channel with viewership of 100 hits. Over three years. They don't want, need that.

I gave up resolutions years ago. Now I just do or not do what is best for me and my business and life.

No resolutions for me....not something I've ever done.  I enjoyed your "she doesn't want to stop" story.  So true...if you really do want something bad enough, you will make it happen.

Cindy ... Fire in your belly. Not the Mexican South Of The Border kind... but determination to make it happen. Put those resolutions into gear, practice. Making them a habit.

Sharon ... (Shouting to the kitchen) "HOLD the resolutions on that last order. You can make someone have a hard time not to do something but if they really want to, they are going to do it. Horse lead to water story. Doobie Brothers had an album "What were once habits are now vices". Growing up never stops happening and we all learn the hard way. Or don't think this or that will happen to us. Yes it does. Right on time, schedule with casual speed.

Andrew, no rubber stamped marketing plan for me this year. Beside all that does is tend to create something that collects dust. While I have 12 month transaction and financial goals, I'm thinking this year that the strategic plan is at most one page, but, the tactical plan is detailed, maybe even week-by-week.

BTW, great mountain photos. I'm miss the mountains of Vermont, New Hampshire and especially Maine in the summer. The very best to you and yours in 2014!!!

Thanks Debb ... This is exciting and updating the youtube channel a perfect winter exercise to tighten it up, adjust the beam broadcast to the segment audience that is much more splintered. Not one big one like the old days. Like blogging, well structure any media work, all we do has to have valuable content, to target the audience and encourage some social interaction. To keep them coming back. For life. You and I need to be the trusted brand that is doing our best to save them gas, time, help them buy or sell. Or learn about the area.
