The people and events that happen in Houlton Maine create the local community flavor of the place.
The fund raising projects of the Houlton Maine Rotary Club really shine during the Thanksgiving week.
Has been that way for 57 years, the life span of the service project fund raising for the Houlton Maine Rotary Club Auction.
Over $62,000 worth of items to bid on spread out over the three nights before Thanksgiving means something for everyone to chase after, secure. The motivation to bid is multi faceted.
The money raised gets plowed right back into a worthwhile project like this year's Just For Kid's Playground.
Over the years helping the Northern Maine Soap Box Derby.
The Houlton Regional Hospital, Riverfront Beautification and Downtown Project, etc have meant the local area is a better place.
The quality of life improved because Houlton Maine Rotary got behind a project.
Beefing up the local sound systems, lightning on school stages, building an outdoor amplitheatre, peddling Boy in The Boots to raise money for the health foundation at the hospital all part of the long long list of benefits due to the funds raised from the auction, other Rotary sources. Rotary Bingo is another fund raiser. The Rotary District 7810 Houlton Maine conference this past summer was a success too. With District Governor Leigh Cummings from the Houlton Maine club.
If you are part of a local Rotary Club you know the good done world wide. If you are not in a service club like Rotary, consider joining.
