March Maine Homes Sale Up, Increase 42% In "Vacationland".

It's official and the newsletter from the Maine Association of REALTORS gives the hard numbers of the real state statistics of homes sales, and it's very postive. This is what the bugle sounded today...hot off the press. MAINE HOME SALES UP IN MARCH:  In a press release to the media today, MREIS reports that Maine home sales increased 42% in March 2010, compared with March 2009. The median sales price for that same period increased nearly 10% to $164,900. The complete release: http://mainerealtors.com/Statistics/2010PressReleases/MaineHousingReport-March2010.pdf   MAINE OPEN HOUSE DAY: Sunday, May 16, 2010, is Maine Open House Day. Any Maine REALTOR interested in participating may use the logos designed for the event on any of your ads, on your websites, and/or in social media.  We also have links to additional free ways to promote the event, and to the NAR Field Guide on Open Houses. Click the Maine Open House Day banner on http://www.mainerealtors.com for logos and information.

EPA RENOVATION, REPAIR AND PAINT RULE [Reprint from 1/29/10 and 3/17/10 E-NEWS] - EFFECTIVE DATE REMINDER: EPA adopted new regulations in 2008 that will take effect April 22, 2010. They establish lead safe work practices for contractors doing renovations that will disturb paint in pre-1978 residential properties. The contractors have to be certified/trained by EPA on proper techniques to avoid spreading lead paint hazards and have to give the homeowner/tenant a copy of a new EPA lead pamphlet before undertaking the work. While the regulations do not directly regulate real estate brokers, they will have to make their buyer and seller clients aware of the new requirements if work is being done or is going to be done as part of a transaction.  They will need to make sure any list of area contractors they use includes EPA-certified contractors for pre-1978 homes. They will also need to make sure that the results of any testing done in connection with the renovations are disclosed as part of the existing Residential Property Lead Paint Disclosure process.  NAR has a video program that explains the regulations plus a FAQ. EPA "RENOVATE RIGHT" PAMPHLET: Here's the EPA "Renovate Right" pamphlet, which includes a certification form renovators can use to comply with the upcoming new lead paint rules for renovations and repairs - http://www.epa.gov/lead/pubs/renovaterightbrochure.pdf

NEW NAR BENEFIT PROGRAM: NAR has announced the addition of FedEx Office (formerly Kinko's) to its REALTOR Benefits Program roster.  NAR Members can now save 20% on select FedEx Office copy and print services, as well as 10% on additional services (such as banners, signage and direct mail) at more than 1,800 FedEx Office locations throughout the US.  For more info on this and other programs: http://www.realtor.org/realtor_benefits
