Wall to wall people all your life. Space. Lacking real space in your daily diet on a regular day to day basis. You've always hankered some real space. It's not that you are claustrophobic either. Room to breath, to grow, to relax, to think. When folks are jammed into an area where there is a state average of 1000 people per miles or higher, you may be a candidate to consider living in Maine's Aroostook County with 11 people per square mile. Or even Alaska's one person per square mile for personal mental health reason.
People. Where you are now every where you look, people and suddenly if that closeness was gone. May be a hard concept to wrap your mind around. Maybe you are a city mouse and like all the people, goods and services where you can reach out and voila. Maybe it's never been any other way and you like reaching out and touching someone, lots of someones.
But if you have an anxiety, a bone tired weariness that you have carried much of your life, it may be simple lack of space.I hear it alot in my job as a Maine real estate broker. And the older you get, the more you want to have some space you don't have to fight for, struggle to get. Your personal force field for elbow room may be weakening or drawing so much phantom energy day in and day out. It can rob your enthusiasm, get up and go. What if you lived in an area full or part time that you no longer needed that power hungry force field you set up and carry around you where you live now to survive in an urban center? Like swimming without water wings or a life perserver. No more bike training wheels. No need for a taser, no dead bolts, no club in your car. No fear of gangs, loss or damage to your person or property. Safety for your family. Wouldn't that be one huge load lifted, like a blue sky and sun after years of overcast and hazy diet?
That's why just owning land in Maine can be a life saver. You need some Maine dirt in your diet. Having freedom and not worrying about being on your guard to avoid bumping into, bothering or protecting yourself from too many people of the good, bad and pushy kind. You are not anti social, can be the life of the party but just need time away from people. To recharge, to not have to be polite and engage on any level. To spend some time with yourself. That's how you figure out how's your life going, what goals and plans you have for yourself, your family and even what community service work or professional enhancements you need to pursue. You do your best thinking alone, on a walk, mowing a lawn, in the shower or with a hot coffee to sunrise on the deck. It's your life and Maine is a place to put it all together. Maine is a place to be able to pull back and see the bigger picture of what is worthwhile, what is needed along the way of this experience called life. It's not a cowardly retreat, it's getting a lot more for less. Lots of acreage, less people, for less money. Maine is the 4th lowest crime state. Traffic? What's that? Your day is not wasted with extra details, maneuvers, swerves to say just get to and from work in the shortest time when you live in Maine. That leave the house early, get home late due to accidents, traffic and missing the family dinner or your child's school activity does not happen. Is that something you are ready, have been looking for? Then we need to talk. Maine, the way life should be.
