As a kid I mowed a lawn at a property that was neat as a pin in Houlton Maine. The older couple built the home, were particular and fussy about its upkeep and maintenace. Said in a nice, good way. They worked hard for what they had. Took care of it. But now they are gone. Age has a way of leading up to that.
And the new owners of the property in Houlton Maine are parking on the lawn.
The place is being lived in and not maintained the same level of Mister Roger's perfection standards.
Why should I care?
I don't particularly but for the last few years passing the place I always, always think the folks who built the home would be rolling over in their graves.
And the Maine home will always seem, "feel", be remembered like it should have the original builder, owner living there. Ever have that happen? The new owners are super people, have kids but can do what ever they want with THEIR home right?
Okay, what about this scenario today in real estate.
Meeting a US Border Patrol officer and his girlfriend at a property in Central Aroostook County. A place in E Plantation Maine.
Her mom on board and as I open the door today to a place rented by the truck driving son of the owner who is not home,I can hear water.
Lots of water.
Like you are at Niagara Falls H2O.This is not good.
So wander an around the about way to the cellar to hit the main water shut off. Crank it off. Water in the system keeps gushing but slowly trickles off.
The country property has a private well and it is working just fine. Doing what wells with no restriction, not shut off valves do.
Run run run like the wheels on the bus go round round round.
The light blue rugs needed replacing anyway right?
The suspended ceiling tiles in the basement are toast in about 25% of the finished area.
Another easy fix.
Lots better than sheet rock coming down.
Having to rip in to it.
Then new sheets and joint compounding, sanding, painting. Urrghh.
That is one, the only good thing about suspended ceilings in living area in a finished basement where you need to be able to access plumbing, wiring.
And in this case, replace the the tiles that had high seas from a kitchen leak in an empty home where the truck driver owner is away in Virginia.
Call to the owner was appreciated but always feel like the bearer of bad news.
He was not one you had to worry about shooting the messenger.
He was glad we got the water turned off rather than discovering it Thursday.
After for running day and night for two more days.
