In rural America in spots like Northern Maine's Aroostook County, agents do more than just houses and homes. 

Residential sales are a big staple but land, small mom and pop groceries type businesses, multi units and vacant land are big components of the real estate picture.  So much of what the REALTOR and other organizations do is pound away at homes, houses, residences for sale.  But in "Vacationland" land sales are a huge part of what a general real estate broker handles in their day to day. Waterfront lots, farm land for homesteaders and back to nature hobby farmers, building sites, small business enterprises and commerical development land are all part of the mix.  Maybe rural states where there is more land and open space and homes are not built in models of large sprawling subdivisions, the term REALTOR means more than house, house, house. The national organizations would be well served to add to the media mix 30 second spots thrown into the station's Run Of Schedule (ROS rotation) a little higher concentration of small businesses, vacant acreage, development land, waterfront and vacation properties.  Secondary targets are out there to develop and market to especially in rural states where there is space, safety and plenty of inventory.  Any low cost real estate has appeal and a broad market to cater too. There are more and more folks in these uncertain times that just like owning affordable real estate in small town, community spirit rich areas on the outskirts of population centers.  Slower paced, an escape plan from the hustle bustle either part or full time is a hunger REALTOR's can market too and feed in addition to their residential home-based local clients.

Weather is a drug...a good elixir for whatever ails you. 

Maine had an old fashioned winter with record snowfall like many northern states.  So as the sunshines, snow melts, locals are venturing out to rake lawns, walk at dusk, and to just be glad to be outside full time as season's change. Maine canoe races underway with plenty of water for spring paddling in canoes and kayaks.  Plans for opening summer homes, taking school vacations with kids, building decks, washing down home exteriors, and general busy bee industry is evident thru out Maine.  In Houlton, the local dairy bar just opened so you know little league games are not far behind either as ice get removed from the Milliar Civic Center too.  Living in Maine and enjoying all four seasons is such a blessing. Blue blue skies, bright stars and fewer friendlier people with a real sense of community.  That's Maine..the way life should be. And to top it all, Big Papi just hit a grand slam in yesterday's Red Sox win.  Life is good in Red Sox Nation.  Last year at this time, took the kids to a Red Sox series with the New York Yankees in Boston and watch a three game sweep of the pinstripes.  Here's the Houlton Maine Parks and Recreation Department's Summer Guide for the youth too! We lack crime, traffic, pollution, mean pushy people.  Family and work ethic is top priority. Community and volunteering and helping others is key.
