Feeding Your Blog...What Do You Have People Will Take The Time To Read?

Years ago, if the president talked, it was reported.  If Charles Lindberg made history, it was reported.  But until reality television, and blogs, the average guy listened, and read, but did not contribute to the information flow.  One of the only options to "speak" and be heard was to excercise his right to vote for someone that spoke with the ideas and values similiar to the guy pulling the ballot lever.  Now that anyone on the planet can blog, what do you have worthwhile to take others time to read?  Everyday, something new from within to mine, to craft, to share.  You are an authority in your area to educate on what your burg is all about.  You live there, maybe grew up there.  Beside blogging as a tour guide for your area, you have passions and hobbies that drive you too Hungry Maine birds looking for lunchright?  As a broker, if you like photography, you can share what you have learned about capturing images! If you like to hobby farm, that is the vein of interest that develops a following...much like a reporter in a newspaper or magazine or on a news cast.  Everyone has something inside to share that others can connect with in this Active Rain community.  Define what puts fire in your belly ...the areas of your life that capture your attention and share it with others. As a newbie to Active Rain, as I read blogs and perused groups like wandering thru a grocery store, it is easy to see which doors you want to open to explore the many, many diverse folks that live here.  Jump in, start contributing but don't stay on the sidelines. Start broadcasting so others can get to know you and you can become a part of the community.  Start a new group if you do not see an area listed that you can be comfortable and productive in.  Make Active Rain part of your day, like a diary or tutorial of what you've learned, what you wonder about and need help with...and most importantly, what you enjoy..what you are good at.  What makes you tick?  Others do want to know about you and are hungry to glean from what you contribute here!  We are brokers, mortgage arrangers, stagers, agents, web designers, attorneys, buyers, sellers and SEO gurus....but more importantly than all that, we are people with lives inter connected and webbed together.  I look forward to going down thru posts...new and from months ago that are stockpiled like a library, a treasury of information!  There are so many many super folks that are part of Active Rain ready to help each other along...

What Kids Are Not Being Taught in School Or Maybe At Home....

Respect for others, finish your peas, say your prayers.  Your mom and dad or grandparents taught you some old time values.  But according to Bill Gates, after high school, many realize what they were not taught or what was missed.  Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.

Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it!

Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.

Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.

Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

Projected To Be In Upper 70's Today...And Some Of Us Thinking Snow Skiing!

Maine offers four season landscapes with something for everyone.  Today many vacationers to Maine are enjoying Maine's Big Rock Ski Areathe coastal beaches and inland lakes.  Some hiking Baxter And Acadia state parks, or paddling the Allagash Wilderness Waterway.  But others are enjoying the moment but not thinking about winter with a sense of dissapointment.  On the contrary, Maine's ski areas are preparing for the upcoming down hill season today.  Oh sure, if you wander into the larger Maine ski areas today, you will be routed into information on the golf courses that many have adopted to take up the slack when the ground is not covered with a blanket of fresh white snow.  These sites have a winter / summer feature to shift gears depending on the vist you make to the site.  Visit Maine's two largest ski areas to cool off at

www.sugarloaf.com/index.html

www.sundayriver.com/index.html

Or if you are interested in some of the smaller Maine ski venues, double click Mars Hill's pride and joy above Look Dad, No Hands Skiingwww.BigRockMaine.com or Rangeley's www.saddlebackmaine.com  or venture into Upper Haynesville, New Brunswick to www.crabbemountain.com which the kids and I have experienced many many times.  The Canadian discount on the America dollar is at an all time low, but when there was a forty percent exchange rate, Crabbe Mountain was an especially good family value.  When the kids were small like this image, no poles needed and Dad had to be pretty quick to keep up with the little skiiers that weave in and around you at warp speeds almost undected below radar until after they dart by.  Maine ski areas are reasonably priced, free of crime, offering plenty of real estate space to enjoy the great scenery and beauty of this Northern New England state that borders Canada on three sides. Dig out your skis and plan that winter trip to break up the longest season today.  See you on the mountain.  You never know who you will meet in the next chair lift ride up the peak. This is a sport for all ages and for life!
