back to lower New England 10 hours away. What is your routine on a Saturday? Business as usual with same Monday thru Friday atmosphere or is it more human, a little relaxed and a shorter day for you? I enjoy Saturdays because you have a whole different routine...not chasing attorneys or bankers for closings, dealing strictly with buyers and sellers on their off day too. Good day to get caught up on projects that have been dangling. Early on less phone traffic as you wait for the rest of the world to wake up and start thinking real estate. Houlton Maine Rotary Radio TV Auction Coming....
Every Thanksgiving week, the Houlton Rotary Club collects over $50,000 worth of items to auction off..it is part of Thanksgiving in Houlton Maine. College kids home for the holiday drop into Watson Hall at the Episcopa
l Church on Main Street to visit, to bid, to meet old friends. Bidding on happy meals from McDonalds...tshirts, basketball tickets, yards of concrete, homemade items galore. The proceeds from the four decade rotary auction going to youth projects like exchange trips overseas, funding new lighting and sound equipment in local school systems. Or helping the local Houlton Regional Hospital purchase blood gas analyzers and other equipment that might not be purchased otherwise. Sponsoring little league teams, soap box derby race cars, helping build an outdoor ampitheatre for concerts thru out the spring/summer/fall. Recognizing local heros and volunteers with Paul Harris awards...in Houlton, the Rotary club makes things happen. This group of 70 members gets behind what needs a push..and has a super local reputation for getting the job done. The auction is broadcast on local cable and over WHOU-FM radio to get the word out. It is streamed on line...and folks bidding feel good because they get items with friendly spirited competition of an auction..plus knowing the proceeds do good work in the Southern Aroostook area. Kids bid, grandparents bake goods and bid...everyone knows the auction is part of the
local Thanksgiving celebration. Listen to a Houlton Maine podcast on the auction. Watch the video of the Houlton Maine Rotary Auction too.

Happy But Tired New England Brokers, Bankers, Inspectors, Appraisers Today...
And the media had the Red Sox dead and buried for the year...until..wait..what is this..7-1 win over Cleveland Indians? Watched with great glee until after midnight as Josh Beckett fanned batter after batter. The Boston Red Sox have been behind in the count before and rose to the occassion. See you Saturday night in Boston as Shilling takes to the mound. He has been there before remember? No bloody sock this year...cool, calm and in command. Nice to know besides real estate, juggling family and community responsibilities...folks from around the country can root for the home team. In all of Maine, Red Sox Nation is alive, kicking and never without faith in their New England team! You're A Real Estate Broker In Sales Right? Talk Much?
Over a 50 years of "speaking", the average person would fill 1200 books. Or each day, the typical person utters enough to crank out speech to fill twenty single spaced type written pages. Not sure if this figures in talking in your sleep or not but over the hours you are awake, you could fill two books of 300 pages a month. Or 24 books each year. Thanks to phones, voicemail, shooting the breeze with folks you meet and family..heck, even your therapist who is paid to listen...you my friend are very verbal. That's a lotta words...do you really think about the ones you chose..with family, your co workers, your customers..or just crank out volume shaped slightly by reaction of the one on the other end? Do you stop and think about what the other person just said ? Or have a train of thought kicked into gear and PRESTO...you are three cups of coffee turned on speech wise? We conserve resoures, we look for ways to reduce and keep it simple..but what about our speech ? If we are in sales, we like and know how to talk. Maybe it is attention getting, maybe it is decided to inform and be helpful....maybe you just put into the speech trail everything you are thinking. All of us could work on our listening skills in this business and there is a reason God gave us two ears and one mouth. How are your listening skills since we just proved the average cat is pretty darn verbal? Or have you studied customers who have oral diarrhea that tend to waste your time or make your job harder trying to get your word and point in edge wise?
